The design with striking side lines prints lightness, not leaving aside the daring characteristic of the model. All this is designed so the ASX-S has a low drag coefficient of only 0.33, which guarantees maximum power and fuel economy.
Technology and power
The Mitsubishi ASX-S is equipped with a motor produced in Brazil. It is a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder 16-valve, with variable MIVEC control, and 160 hp of power. The ASX-S has an excellent weight-to-power ratio in the category, with 9.1 kg / hp. This is due to the ‘Ring Type’ structure of high rigidity, made with thin steel sheets of high malleability and low weight. In the engine, the head and the block are made of ultra-light aluminium. This whole set has been carefully thought out and contributes to the low weight of the crossover, of only 1465 pounds. The vehicle is equipped with CVT (Continuous Variation Transmission) transmission with sequential Sports Mode system, which ensures maximum engine torque and greater driving pleasure. In addition, the transmission has the exclusive INVECS III, which analyses the driving style of each driver, making the gearshifts much smoother. Paddle shifters, positioned behind the wheel, are generously sized and allow manual shifting, making driving feel even more pleasurable. Equipped with 4×4 traction, the ASX-S has an electronic drive system. With a simple tap on the button located in the centre console, the driver can choose to drive the vehicle in 2WD, for urban use and that provides more comfort and fuel economy; 4WD, for more sporty use, ideal for winding tracks; and LOCK, which provides greater safety on floors with poor adhesion.
Protection and security
The ASX-S is equipped with traction control and stability (ASC and TCL), which keeps the vehicle in the correct path, avoiding lateral slippage and acting in conjunction with the engine and brake system. Each item was designed to make driving even more practical, such as the Hill Start Assist (HSA). The feature prevents the vehicle from riding back and forth in ramp starts, automatically braking the wheels and making manoeuvring easier. The protection for the driver and passengers is complete. In all, there are nine airbags: two front, two side, four curtain and one knee. The occupants also have front seat belts with power limiter and seat and headrest protected from the ‘whip’ effect. The vehicle comes with pedestrian protection technology, with plastic front fenders (Nary) that helps reduce possible impacts. The structure is designed under the RISE concept of controlled deformation and the steering column and brake pedals are collapsible. The crossover is equipped with ABS braking system with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), which ensures a perfect distribution of braking force between the front and rear wheels in all situations. Aligned to this set are the McPherson independent front suspension, helical springs, stabilizer bars and multilink rear suspension, which give the driver greater vehicle control as well as smooth driving on rough terrain.
Practical and engaging interior
The interior of the Mitsubishi ASX-S has been carefully designed, blending black tones with silver finish that further enrich the interior design and help create a modern, harmonious and yet very practical set.
The large luggage carrier has a lowered floor, which makes it easier to load and unload luggage. And there is still a space below the floor, which is not visible, to store small objects. The leather seats have heating in the front and the driver’s seat also has electrical adjustment, items that guarantee more practicality for the day to day. The rear seats have individual head restraints and can be partially or fully folded. The central part features armrest and ‘pass through’ opening, with easy access to the trunk to pick up small objects. In all, nine courtesy lights are distributed inside the ASX-S, which also has three map holders and six hooks for cargo.
